Welcome to The Shelves, a collection of places to read, learn, and spend time in the city. Each space is selected for its intention, its collections, its facilities, and the small details that make you want to stay a little longer.
Instead of working like a guide, this page looks at how the space is used, experienced and how each space feels that invites you to match your needs whether to spend time alone, chill with your family and friends, or to focus do your work.
Here, seven libraries are gathered across Central and South of Jakarta, each reflecting a different cultural background, including Indonesia, the Netherlands, South Korea, Japan, Germany, France, and the United States.
Some feel more classic and structured, others more open and contemporary. Each one carries
its own rhythm, its own way of welcoming people in.
Some of these places may already feel familiar, libraries that people return to, spaces that have long been part of the city’s routine. Others might be less known, quietly existing without much attention, waiting to be discovered.
